Term Definition
Scan pathOne or more serial shift register chains through which test signals are applied and test results are observed. The scan path registers may also be used in the normal mode of the circuit for status registers, data storage, etc.
Schematic captureThe act of entering a circuit schematic into a graphical CAD tool.
SemiconductorA material that is neither a good conductor of electricity (like copper) nor a good insulator (like rubber). The most common semiconductor materials are silicon and germanium. Computer chips, both for CPU and memory, are composed of semiconductor materials. Semiconductors make it possible to miniaturize electronic components, such as transistors. Not only does miniaturization mean that the components take up less space, it also means that they are faster and require less energy.

Standard evaluation circuitA device used for maintaining qualification of a QML fabrication line, it is typically a memory device.
Stuck-at faultA deduction about a circuit problem based on a comparison of expected logical outputs to actual outputs. The underlying assumption is that a gate input or output is inhibited by a defect from switching states and is \"stuck at\" a particular value.
Surface MicromachiningAn additive fabrication technique which involves the building of a device on the top surface of a supporting substrate. This technique is relatively independent of substrate; therefore, it can be easily mixed with other fabrication techniques which modify the substrate first.
SynthesisThe CAD operation of automatically generating an integrated circuit layout from a high-level description.
System LevelA behavioural description of a system that is an abstraction of the hardware/software implementation level.
